Five (5) Congolese female law enforcement officers will attend the “Leadership for Women in the Criminal Justice Sector” Training from January 30, 2023 – February 10, 2023, at the U.S.-funded International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in Gaborone, Botswana. The training will be conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the United States Secret Service. The training will include, lectures, case studies, self-directed studies, panel discussions, and exercises to identify and develop solutions to deal with common issues and challenges that all women face globally in law enforcement.
The selection and participation of these qualified Congolese women, including the president of juvenile court of High court of Brazzaville and Commander of the Nkayi Territorial Brigade, speaks to the increasing role women play in advancing peace and security in the Republic of Congo. Women from seven (7) other African countries will participate in the training which will provide Congolese participants with an international network of fellow women in law enforcement, with whom they can openly and candidly share ideas.
The United States is committed to our security and defense partnership with the Republic of Congo. The trainings provided to law enforcement officers at the U.S.-funded International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) will enhance our mutual ability to effectively confront transnational criminal threats. They advance anti-crime efforts by building the capacity of Congolese criminal justice officers and connecting these partners to one another and to U.S. law enforcement to address shared threats. Over 200 Congolese law enforcement officers have been trained at the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) since 2010.
