Ambassador Eugene Young hosted a reception in honor of new members of our Embassy team

Ambassador Eugene Young Remarks

Welcome Event

September 27, 2023

We are thrilled that you are here with us tonight to celebrate the arrival of new members of our Embassy team.

As has been the case throughout my tenure, we are again fortunate to have attracted some of America’s best diplomats to Brazzaville.

All of them bring deep diplomatic experience, experience in Africa and around the world and experience beyond the world of diplomacy.

And many of them are planning to stay more than the standard two years, a credit to their dedication to the American mission in Congo.

Bisola and I believe that this new group will continue the high level of professionalism and diplomatic quality that I hope you have come to expect from your American Embassy partners in the Republic of the Congo.

All of them will be focused on our priorities here – building a strong American government platform to maintain the best possible relationship with the Congolese government and people, focusing on key common interests in environmental protection and fighting climate change, enhancing maritime security in our shared Atlantic Ocean, and working together for regional peace and security.  As always, we encourage and support a more open Congolese society and a more open economy both of which can be a foundation for greater opportunity and prosperity for the Congolese people.

Again, thank you for joining us tonight.

Now I want to make sure that you have a chance to see all of the new members of our team:

  • Larry Cuppy, Financial management and Human Resources officer
  • Andrea Delgado, Executive Assistant for the Ambassador and the Deputy Chief of Mission
  • Major Joe Wilhelm, U.S. Army
  • Brian Kressin, Management Counselor
  • Wen-li Kressin, Regional Security Office Management Assistant
  • Galaal Elsamadicy, Economic Counselor
  • Eric Elliott, Public Affairs Counselor
  • Eliane Elliott, General Services Office Assistant

Many of our Congolese team members are here tonight as well.  We could not do anything without their expertise, experience, operational and programmatic skills.

I invite you to spend time with all of our team members so that they have a chance to know you better and understand all that you are doing to move Congo forward.

Thank you for your attention and please enjoy the rest of the evening!
