Celebration of International Jazz Day in Brazzaville

International Jazz Day Concert in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo – April 30, 2013.

Created by UNESCO, International Jazz Day brings together communities from all over the world to celebrate jazz, learn about its roots, and highlight its important role in advancing intercultural dialogue and understanding.

In Brazzaville, UNESCO teamed up with the U.S. Embassy, Festival PanAfrican de la Musique, and music preservation NGO Biso na Biso to hold a free jazz concert at Memorial Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza. The concert featured an educational lecture on the origins of jazz music, a display featuring hundreds of jazz vinyl records, and two local jazz bands – Congo Ndulé Jazz and Muningu led by American artist Amber Junker. Around 300 people attended the event and enjoyed the jazz experience.
