On May 16, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Congo proposed a plan for progressive deconfinement, which entered into force on Monday, May 18. The declaration in French is attached to this alert.

The measures include:

The nightly curfew from 8:00pm to 5:00am is extended until May 31.
Travel between Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire is currently on hold, unless necessary. Travel between these two cities and the rest of the country is prohibited.
Public transportation resumes in both Pointe Noire and Brazzaville.
Mandatory use of protective masks in public places.

Congo security forces will patrol to ensure the new rules are followed. Borders remain closed, sporting events and gatherings of more than fifty people are banned, bars and restaurants remain closed until further notice.

The school grades of CM2, 3ieme and Terminale will reopen as of June 1st to allow for exam preparation. All other classes will resume in September.

All U.S. citizens in ROC should continue to prepare by ensuring they have sufficient food, medicine, and supplies should they need to remain at home in ROC for an extended period of time.

On March 14, the Department of State authorized the departure from any diplomatic or consular post in the world of US personnel and family members who have been medically determined to be at higher risk of a poor outcome if exposed to COVID-19.

The Department of State has issued a Global Level 4 Health Advisory for COVID-19.
