Foreign National Student Intern Program (FNSIP)

U.S. Embassy Brazzaville, Republic of Congo is preparing for the 2020 Foreign National Student Intern Program (FNSIP).

Application Deadline: Interested applicants must complete and submit their application to the Human Resources Office on or before February 13, 2020.

Internship Dates: The FNSIP will begin on March 1, 2020 and end on October 31, 2020. To be eligible for consideration in the program, FNSIP student applicants must be available to work for a minimum of four (4) consecutive weeks, 8 hours a day, during that timeframe.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To be eligible for the FNSIP, students must meet ALL of the following criteria:

A. Minimum Age: Students must be at least 18 years old at the time of participation in the Program.

B. Citizenship/Legal Residence: The FNSIP is only open to Congolese students or those who are either citizens or permanent legal residents of the host country.

C. Meet Definition of Student: Applicants must be a student who is enrolled not less than half time in a participating educational institution, selected by the Embassy.

  • Must not have ceased to be a student for not more than 5 months;
  • Must pursue a course of study or training in the same or different educational institution immediately after the internship if not at the end of the study cycle.

D. Transcript and Permission: Applicants must be in good academic standing at their current educational institution and must provide a certified transcript verifying this. Applicants must also provide written permission from the educational institution at which they are currently enrolled to participate in the FNSIP.

E. Security and Medical Certifications: Applicants must receive a successful security certification and medical certification from post prior to beginning the program.

The program is uncompensated and any student participating in the program is not an employee of the U.S. mission, the U.S. Department of State, or the U.S. government.

Interested applicants for this internship must submit the following to be considered:

  1. A current résumé or curriculum vitae;
  2. Any other documentation (e.g., essays, certificates, awards, copies of degrees earned) that addresses the qualification requirements of the internship, as listed above.
  3. An application for a FSNIP (Foreign National Student Internship Program) and a Student Statement of Interest. These two forms are provided by the U.S. Embassy Human Resources Office.

Note: If selected, and before commencement of the internship, a security background investigation will be conducted on the candidate(s); and internship possibilities are contingent upon the outcome of that security background investigation.

AVAILABLE INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR FNSIP

The following internship opportunities are available. Student applicants must state the specific internship opportunities of interest in their statement of interest.

1. Public Affairs Intern (one intern)

Duties include: Selected interns will assist the American Center Director with:

  • Management of the library;
  • cataloging books in the dedicated software Library World;
  • shelving books;
  • creating profiles in the system for new patrons/subscribers to the library;
  • making library cards; and
  • checking books in and out to patrons.

Selected interns will also be helping with English Clubs and the preparation of programming in the American Center and other locations in Brazzaville:

  • movie discussions and other activities,
  • training session on Internet research,
  • e-Library USA and MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses);
  • taking pictures of events, and assisting with social media accounts;
  • assisting with printed materials for activities,
  • helping with intake for activities and keeping monthly statistics

Qualifications, skills and abilities:

  • Associate studies in Communication, Sciences, English or any other similar, transferrable, relevant or closely related field.
  • English: Level III- Good knowledge (Speaking/Reading/Writing)
  • French: Level IV- Fluent (Speaking/Reading/Writing)
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: A basic knowledge of office automation systems and a sound knowledge of reporting, communication, and written skills are required for this internship. The candidate must be computer literate with demonstrated abilities to use the Microsoft Office (MS Word and MS Excel) and be familiar with basic Internet search skills

2. Human Resources Intern (one intern)

Duties include: Data entry, preparing documents, replying to emails, scheduling appointments, answering telephone, shredding, and other office-related duties.

  • Assist in drafting correspondence to HR customers, etc.
  • Provide assistance in building various e-files including re-organizing subject files, filing various documents, preparing attestations of salary, work and domiciliation as assigned

Qualifications, skills and abilities:

  • Incumbent should be a student in a Human Resources Management college or university
  • English: Level III- Good working knowledge (Speaking/Reading/Writing)
  • French: Level IV- Fluent (Speaking/Reading/Writing)
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Good computer skills
